Who would have picked this name as being a magical girl series? Some day I'm going to have to do a chronology so I can tell which series are derivatives, and which original, but this series is actually quite cute. The weakness is that it is fairly formulaic and the animation and design work is average at best. There is also a fair amount of repetition, especially the mandatory transformation scenes. The strength is in the humor, which is suprisingly wordy, with the characters engaging in argument and discussion (for example the team name) even during combat. This is okay, because the bad guys are just as wordy. The core characters are fun to watch too, suprisingly independant and weird considering the age being represented, although this may detract from the cute potential. Negative points for the `intelligent toys' everyone carries, and which form the focus for the girls power (the girls themselves do not transform), as they are severely uncute and have the flavor of merchandising about them.
