Another movie from the Captain Harlock universe, which given the age of the source probably doesn't mean much to many. The essence of these movies seems to be super high technology against conscious anachronism and primitive psychology. In this, very action centric, example the world has been destroyed through meteor strikes and is now dominated by the `trade forces' and held in a new dark age. We follow one young boy as he discovers that his heritage, and his future, will set him apart from others. Sadly the story, concentrating on action and impressive scenes, has some holes and a relatively unsatisfying ending. It almost seems as if it is only the start of something bigger, but I don't believe the story continued elsewhere. In addition the older animation reduces the impressiveness of the action scenes, which somewhat rips the heart out of the movie. As an important scene in the Harlock universe, or the early episodes of an OAV series, this would be promising but as a self contained movie the experience leaves much to be desired.

According to mail from Jay Dee Archer the movie is actually made from splicing two OAV episodes together. One would also assume that more than just these two were hoped for. He also mentioned that they're recent creations, despite looking old. Guess I have to watch it again.
