Title Info
Perhaps I'm being mean here, but when this is a commercial release with one episode per tape the standards should be higher. This fairly formula swords and science piece seems to have little danger of breaking out from the mediocre. The first strike against it is the animation which is bright and clean but too obviously suffers from having taken every short-cut possible. The plot concerns a powerful empire with advanced technology which is opposed by a small group of pirates, among whom is the chosen one. As a result there is a lot of opportunity for very flashy (hampered by the animation) special effects as one magical relic after another gravitates to these pirates. The writing is average, with a lot of co-incidence and selective incompetence from the `bad' guys to make the story possible. The characters are also relatively lifeless and look very odd under the minimal animation. The ending aspires to tragedy, but since it is a bit predictable and overblown, and you don't care about the characters that much anyway, fails to hit the mark. Watchable, not offensively stupid, but in the end an average product that you will not want to own. |
