Very true to the genre. This series has just enough story to explain why they're fighting and just enough characterisation that we care. The hero is a ninja sent 400 years forward in time (but somehow with a complete set of skills) who pledges himself to a girl possessing healing power after they save each others life. Of course the bad guys want to steal his princess, while other school ninja's end up fighting beside him. This is complicated by the existence of magical weapons which are possessed by both sides. In theory Recca's ability is to call `flame dragons', but in truth his main ability it to get the crap beaten out of him for an entire episode and then win through force of will, or ninja trick, at the last moment. This is capably produced, with many flashy effects, some reasonable martial arts (the magical weapon effects tend to dominate) and moments of tension and character. However, if you don't like a show that mostly alternates between posing and threatening on one hand and magically assisted violence on the other (which I don't, could you guess?) then you won't like this. Bonus points for actually having a magical healer, which explains why they don't spend a month in hospital between each episode.
