Abstract:   A pioneer in selling anime for the western market. The fact that this often
`required' modification of the anime leading to many fan's disliking his
approach
Carl Macek, depending on who you ask, is either one of the pioneers of releasing anime into western markets, or one of the great evils of the world. The problem, as seen in robotech and others, is that he felt free to heavily modify the original source for a western release. Some argument exists as whether this was to get it in western media at all, whether he considered it as his own artistic contribution or whether he just couldn't keep his hands off making changes. Thus while many people got into anime through a Carl Macek production his agressive approach drives the purists insane. Thus a purist might mention his name in relation to a modern adaption when he wants to state that it has been highly adapted for a western release. |
