As a flexible and expressive medium it is obvious that anime will include the potential to express erotic material. But I wanted to have some position on which to determine what is erotic and what is hentai (perverse). In other words there has been, and will be, anime I watch but choose not to review.
The long description of my determination is in this document but i'll also give the essence here. Effectively I use the term hentai for erotic material that depends on shock and perversion for it's power...and I generally don't review such material. I use the term erotica for material that, while potentially explicit, is as much about characters and stories as sex. This also means it will not include non-consensual sex (rape), demons, tentacles, bondage, cruelty and such things. In general erotica is only about things that normal people do.
