This could also be called the `genre I do not get'. There's several possible reasons, the most frequent suggestion of which is the lack of a sense of humor. The other possibility is that I prize cleverness in my humor, and also that I (sort of unfortunately) now look at most anime with a reviewers eye. Thus I prefer anime I can recommend to the general anime watcher.
And then there's the anime equivalent of a fart joke or slapstick. It's not clever, or complex, but some people like the sheer irreverence, crazy energy and bizarre originality of these titles. The titles where it seems as if the designers were challenging each other in game of who can come up with the silliest idea to animate next. A healthy medium should have titles of this type, and the flexibility of anime allows for some strange things to be concocted.
If you like this sort of stuff I suggest you both take my reviews with a large does of salt, and also sample the titles listed as belonging to this genre.
