Abstract:   A visual symbol for female fury.

Best known from the Ranma series of Manga and Anime from Rumiko Takahashi, but I suspect it has much earlier origins. That said the heroines of a Takahashi manga, especially Akane from the Ranma series, are certainly the most frequent practitioners of this noble art. In effect the female in question suddenly manages to possess a large wooden mallet, with which the offending male can be bashed. The advantage is that it quickly shows violent fury and revenge while being comedic enough that it is not taken seriously, and thus does not need to be considered further in the story. In the ranma series this act is often combined with the cry ` < name > no baka', with the name generally being Ranma himself.
