Abstract:   The Japanese term for a voice actor.

The loan-word from Japanese that means `voice actor'. One thing that must be realised is that anime voice-actors can actually reach star status in Japan, becoming recognised names. In addition some of the better Seiyuu actually release music CD's and acheive fame as singers using their Seiyuu fame and skills as the base. Thus that catchy opening to an anime might well be by one of the Seiyuu, and anime featuring singing (such as Idol singer anime) is more likely to be fairly high quality. The top seiyuu will rack up an impressive tally of titles and roles, will have an active fan-club/web pages and will be recognised for previous roles they have made their own. Here's a page to start at The Seiyuu Photo Gallery although the Anipike has lots more links to follow.
