Title Info
The phrase "slice of life drama" exits, but I'd like to create the more relevant "slice of manga epic" for anime usage. If you are bitter you can add "that you'll never get to see". The story focuses on a group of interesting characters at a boys college and the challenges they face from various elements of their past. It is an interesting combination of laidback scripts and a strong emphasis on character. The problem is that characters flash into existence, story arcs spring into being and vanish again and some of the stories just don't make sense. On the other hand there is a great sense of character here, and a combination of both Shoujo atmosphere and empathy combined with a masculine environment. On these grounds alone it is interesting. The animation is quite good, in a shoujo style, but the stories in episodes 2-4 are too poorly supported to be believable. This is redeemed by 1 and 5 (with two parts) which spin a longer tale we can get our teeth into (helped by a narrower focus). If you don't mind feeling like you've missed half of the episodes then there is a very agreeable watch here. I thought THEM would be right into it, but despite a generally positive review they give it an average mark in this review and mention some story and character failings. |
