This is the immediate sequel to the OAV series Iczer 1, the reason for the numbering confusion being that Iczer 3 refers to a character, not a title and version, thus Iczer 1 and 2 appear in this series, but there is no Iczer 2 title. The title itself is more or less a sequence of super-powered combats between awesomely powerful (and weird) aliens and awesomely powerful alien defenders (shaped like attractive girls of course). The earthlings themselves are largely absent, having been stamped into the ground (40% of humanity killed) by the 4 alien attackers and the handful of survivors we follow are incapable of doing that much to affect the outcome. The clever twist comes from the fact that one of the humans, Nagisa, discovers she is linked to to the Iczers by her heritage. Not only can she enhance their power but she is also able to help the relatively child-like Iczer 3 mature throughout the series. This does force an element of character and drama into the series, but doesn't change the fact that it is still an action heavy high powered beat-em-up at the core. The animation is showing some signs of age but is competent, action scenes are good but clearly animated with as few frames as possible. The general design is quite good, although because the Iczers are `cute' this is largely restricted to the very interesting aliens who have very different appearances, styles and powers.
