Title Info
This older title is strongly derived from the Rumiko Takahashi source. Of course since the source is one of the scariest RT stories that is not a bad thing in itself. The plot concerns a young and capable student who admits to his girlfriend that his childhood fiance, the inheritor of the clan titles, is coming to visit. His belief that the arrangements will be forgotten proves to be far from the case while his fiance proves to have grown beautiful but also totally devoted and slightly, unusual. This is a nice tight story (the source is a single short story) with good atmosphere and some violence and horror. Sadly the animation is fairly basic even given the age of the anime and there are few suprises for those familiar with the source, and the few changes are generally not for the better (especially the ending). The original source manga is available from Viz in the collection Rumic World Volume 1. The Anime Critic rates it below average noting a poor dub (I saw the sub), that it is weak horror and story weaknesses in this review. There's a spoiler (well, it may be fairly obvious but that's no excuse) review at THEM who judge the story as predictable (which is fair) and also mention the unsuitability for children. |
