> This one is given under the original japanese name, because there are lots of english translations in existence. Unfortunately the material is not that much easier to express, but here we go. In the opening minute an immense alien craft enters the atmosphere, humbles the combined military forces and proceeds to do...well...nothing. Alien scouts flit around town, but they seem non-hostile and even obey traffic laws. Little do they expect that a high school magic club, when not fighting incursions of the manga club into their space, has vowed to defeat them. While they actually do have magic they also have their own problems, including the fact that the president came up with the plan in order to attract new members (preferably female) and now regrets the whole thing. The rest of the club are no better, having their own share of eccentricities, but watching them interact and develop is a lot of fun. The animation is clean and effective, the character work is excellent and the design of the environment is very classy. Bonus points for the rather, um, playful vice president and some interesting use of visual cues for emotion, especially text being written over the characters face. So, if you like somewhat whimsical humorous character pieces, with more attention paid to the romantic than the alien threat, and weren't expecting an action piece, you may enjoy this one quite a bit.
