The series Martian Successor Nadesico has a continuing subplot in which an ancient anime continues to affect the characters and events of the series. Given that, it seems a fairly obvious idea to make a product based on the anime in the series, namely Gekiganger 3. Thus we have some of the characters from the original going to a theatre, a reprise of all the segments from the original and then a short original story in the style of the original. Sadly it just doesn't work. While it seems a good idea the product is not funny enough to be a parody and without the interaction with another story thread is just too weak to be interesting. The hard core Nadesico fans will probably want to see it, but anyone else may well be left wondering why they bothered. The animation is poor and the writing loud, but of course this is intentional, although I wonder what those who don't get the joke will think.
