Title Info
I really didn't want to put this movie here, exemplary suggests a model to be followed, but I don't want more of this. At the same time I can recognize that it is very well done, with lifelike animation, believable characters and ambience and solid, competent writing in a complex plot. However I consider this one of the most horrible movies i've watched, and while this may be the optimum for a psychological thriller it is unusual amongst the anime I have seen. There is a dark world portrayed here, people (especially the lead) under soul-destroying stress, violence and sexual perversion (including one simulated and one attempted rape) amid questions of madness and the barren-ness of `stardom'. I respect this movie as proof that anime can be darker and more twisted than any live action I've seen. Keep the kiddies away (not just because it would be R rated), don't invite me, but if this is the sort of thing you like then this could be a winner for you. The Anime Critic rates it as very good, noting the atmosphere and animation but finding the ending a let down, in this fairly spoiler free review. |
