More humorous adventures drawn from Rumiko Takahashi's Ranma 1/2 Manga featuring a cast of supremely capable but romatically intertwined martial artists and their various shape changing curses. This film follows as akane is mistakenly picked as the chosen bride of a martial arts dojo master. Although she's quite capable of looking after herself the others sally forth to rescue her. The strange thing is that when I first saw this movie I was interested, albeit confused by the immense and unexplained cast, which led me to explore the Ranma manga. The Ranma manga proved to have superior characterisation, better action sequences and character based plots. As I read more I realised that much of the humor and character of the manga is lost in this movie as it seeks to follow a formula plot and focus on action. Thus those who have no knowledge of Ranma may find the energy and character of this film sufficient, while Ranma fans may find it a shallow reflection of the source it fails to rise above. Worth a watch, quite decent animation, but a fairly average film. I saw a dubbed version which wasn't bad with some characters such as Nabiki and Kuno being well matched but the female ranma sounding awful (and replacing Megumi Hayashibara!).
