This short OAV gets its position here, at least in part, as a companion piece to Saber Marionette J. In this story the three core Marionette's exist, and if anything look cuter, but the world is much darker. There is a great deal of violence, which does allow for some lovely action sequences, and lots of blood with multiple graphic fatalities. The bad guy is homicidal and insane and his marionette's are equally twisted, and it is willing to be quite graphic in showing this. Even the background world, while well realised, reeks of decay. This is just so different from S.M. J, yet the spirit of the story is the same, and although concatenated to fit the time available it covers a lot of ground. The animation is different, but good, with the character design, effects and action being well represented. It is interesting that the Marionettes are much less `human' and much more machine in this one. This is a worthwhile watch, but I would suggest watching J first.
