Holy Hybrid! This has the cast from the movie series (Lina and her companion/ competitor Nahga) but is an episodic OAV series. I assume it was done after the TV series, even though the events it portrays are a prequel to that time. The individual stories are very varied, and while the animation is very good for an OAV (close to the standard of the movies) the shorter duration (and lower budget?) does seem to cramp the writing. The infamous slayers humor is present, but even more visual and perhaps more shallow than is familiar from the other movies. The third episode, explosion array, is very cool though so perhaps it just took a while to adjust to this format. Still, this is slayers, so watching these is still a very pleasant experience, although the attempts to graft a more complex personality onto Nahga are not entirely successful.
