I have to admit, something about this movie annoyed me, but i'm really not sure what. The story of an event in Lum's past interfering in her present by way of the future is a reasonable base of a UY story. This allows the immense cast to get dragged in (who can more or less fill up a movie just being themselves), provides a basis for some action and moments of both humor and reflection and some more exploring the strange worlds Takahashi writes so well. The `villain' is largely sympathetic and the conclusion upbeat. The animation is far more impressive than the previous movies and the early TV series and Lum herself has never looked cuter. If I had to identify my concern it is that the movie attempts to keep the surreal element of Beautiful Dreamer (movie 2) while enjoying the detail and action the more impressive animation allows the writing is actually weaker, leading to some problems with pacing and a feeling that some events are done only for effect. Still, if you like Urusei Yatsura this should be a pleasant enough watch that you can determine for yourself.
